Last month I got to be a part of something really awesome, the first Exquisite Animation April! This project was organized by Vanessa Sweet at Sleeping Fox Studio.
Based on the artistic technique of exquisite corpse, each animator was given the same start and end frame with the freedom to animate absolutely anything in between. My piece is roughly between 00:07 and 00:10 of the above video.
Like most of my recent animations, I wanted to see what I could do animating with After Effects. It was interesting converting this character design into a puppet while still trying to maintain it’s hand drawn look. I ended up drawing a few frames in Photoshop to achieve what I couldn’t with puppet pins alone.
