Simulated Words: Animation Process

Cinema 4D is so fun!  I’m really enjoying playing around with this program.  One thing I’ve learned is that C4D is great at is physics simulations.

The animation above was created entirely with rigid and soft body dynamics.  I used generated type for learning purposes, but now that I have the hang of it I’m excited to apply these same techniques to more complex 3D objects and characters.

As an animator, it feels pretty magical to just press play and have the computer generate all the movement for me.  Not that there isn’t a  lot of trial and error… there were definitely a few times the geometry exploded or got tangled up together!  Still, it’s a whole lot faster than keying everything myself.

I had a lot of fun playing with the textures and lighting in this project.  Here are some of my favorite shots:
